The endless grassland, the sparkling Hulun Lake, the exotic Manchuria, and the tranquil and beautiful Greater Khingan Range. The Hulunbuir grassland in June gradually turns green. In a dozen days, colorful flowers will bloom on the green carpet. Hulunbuir will usher in its most beautiful and dazzling moment of the year.

Hulunbuir covers an area larger than seven Hainan islands, but its population is only one-fifth of Hainan’s. The area is vast and sparsely populated, and the scenic spots are scattered. The scenery along the way is almost the same as the scenic spots. Among them, the “Ka Line” is a border road that is more than 200 kilometers long. The most interesting thing about Morigele is grassland off-roading rather than watching the winding river, so self-driving or chartered car travel is the best way to start Hulunbuir tourism.

According to the terrain requirements of Hulunbuir, off-road vehicles are the most suitable . If you are good at driving, you can also try other models. The editor’s fleet at that time had a commercial vehicle GL8, which was very stable when climbing mountains and wading through grass. It is convenient to rent a car in Hailar. You can rent a car on a certain platform, such as a certain state, a certain Hi, or a certain Zhu or a certain Cheng. The city is 3 kilometers away from the airport, and the drive takes less than 10 minutes. There are not many small businesses at the airport, so the rental company usually delivers the car to the airport.

Route 1:

Hulunbuir has a rather simple scenery, with prairie, forest, and a huge lake that stretches as far as the eye can see. Both the forest and the lake are not as big as the Changbai Mountain in the east, so if you just want to see the prairie, three small loops are enough:

D1. Hailar – Manzhouli (230km)

D2. Manzhouli – Heishantou (210km)

D3. Heishantou – Ergun – Hailar (200km)

Check out Boundary Monument No. 41 at the National Gate Scenic Area, go shopping at the Matryoshka Square, and ride horses to watch performances at the Barhu Mongolian Tribe.

Don’t stay in a yurt , no matter how magnificently decorated it is! There are a lot of cockroaches in the yurt. I stayed there for one night and woke up the next day to find one in close contact with my bed, one crawling happily on my clothes, and one in my suitcase that wanted to go back to Guangdong with me…

From Heishantou Town to the Kaxian direction, the Heishantou Mountain for watching the sunset is here. There are a lot of rocks on the top of the mountain. Try to walk up. The editor drove to the top of the mountain before and got a hole in the tire. There are several ranches nearby where you can go grass skiing, archery, horseback riding, and go-karting. There is nothing wrong with it except that it is expensive.

The Ergun Wetland Scenic Area, Asia’s largest wetland, has an entrance fee of 80 yuan, which is average and not worth the money. You can just visit the free birch forest along the way.

Next we arrived at the Morigele grassland crossing, which is a favorite among off-road enthusiasts. There is a rural road on the left side of Hadatu Pasture on National Highway 332. The road condition is extremely poor, but the scenery is beautiful, and it connects to the Morigele Scenic Area.

Route 2:

There are three classic routes in Hulunbuir Grand Loop:

Genbai Line: The forest road from Genhe to Bailu Island, with asphalt road surface mainly featuring the Daxinganling forest and birch forest landscape;

Lamo Line: From Labdalin to Mordaoga in Ergun City, the scenery of Daxinganling Mountains and Hulunbuir grassland;

Ka Line : The most beautiful border road, from south to north, from Heishantou to Shiwei, winding along the Ergun River for nearly 200 kilometers, with forests, grasslands, hills, rivers, wetlands, vast tracts of wheat fields, rapeseed flowers…all kinds of landscapes are displayed together.

D1. Hailar – Manzhouli (230km)

D2. Manzhouli – Heishantou (210km)

D3. Heishantou – Shiwei – Mordaoga (290km)

D4. Mordaoga – Genhe – Ergun (260km)

D5. Ergun – Hailar (200km)

The most beautiful border roads, “Ka Line”, “Lamo Line” and “Genbai Line”, are all completed in one trip. Take a cruise to the Jiehe Scenic Area in Shiwei and see the Russian scenery on the other side up close.

There are two ways to visit Mordaoga Forest Park: driving or taking a small train. The one-way route does not go back, and there are 3-4 stops along the way. The last stop is the reindeer park, where you can buy moss to feed the reindeer. The park itself has average scenery, and many people go there for the small train.

If you don’t particularly want to know more about the Ewenki people, there is no need to go to Aoluguya Reindeer Park. Not to mention that there is already a reindeer feeding experience in Mordaoga Forest Park, there are several reindeer parks near Genhe with more convenient transportation and more affordable prices.

Route three:

Many people who go to Hulunbuir will visit Arxan Forest Park on the way.

The ticket to Arxan and the scenic area bus cost 285 yuan. The scenic area is very large. The main attractions include Tuofengling Tianchi, Dichi, Dujuan Lake, Santanxia, Shitanglin, Arxan Grand Canyon, Geological Park, Budong River, Wusu Langzi Lake, etc. It may take half an hour to get between the attractions by car… So one day is definitely not enough. Considering the time for playing, it is recommended to stay in a small village in the scenic area to experience the rural life in the forest area. The prices of homestays and restaurants in the peak season are not cheap, and don’t expect the hardware services of mountain villages.

D1. Hailar – Arxan (330km)

D2. Arxan

D3. Arxan – Hulun Lake – Manzhouli (470km)

D4. Manchuria

D4. Manzhouli – Heishantou (210km)

D5. Heishantou – Shiwei – Mordaoga Forest Park (290km)

D6. Moerdaoga Forest Park – Ergun Wetland (260km)

D7. Ergun Wetland – Morigele River – Hailar (200km)

Kind tips:

❶ There are sometimes areas on the grassland without mobile phone signal network. When riding a horse or driving a car, do not deviate from the route to avoid getting lost. Be especially careful not to trespass on the grassland;

❷ The weather on the grassland is changeable, with short showers from time to time. The temperature in summer is mostly between 10-25 degrees, so please keep warm;

❸ Hulunbuir is at a high latitude and has strong ultraviolet rays, so please be careful to protect yourself from the sun;

❹ There are many mosquitoes on the grassland and the food is mostly meat and fish, so it is recommended to bring mosquito repellent, digestive tablets, motion sickness medicine, etc.
